The People’s Bank of China released the “2018 Financial Technology Development Report,” which analyzes from a macro perspective the achievements of China’s central bank in the global layout of payment, settlement, and asset management. The report pointed out that from the end of the first quarter of 2020 to the first six months of 2021, nearly 400 commercial banks announced their membership in the Libra Association; China UnionPay also released detailed information on its CBDC pilot work.

On September 15th, Bank of China released a schedule of the development progress of the central bank’s digital currency (DC/EP).

Sun Lijian, Director of the Finance Department of the Guanghua School of Management at Peking University, stated that adequate preparation should be made before the technology matures, actively participating in international standardization work, closely monitoring international situations and related dynamics, and regularly holding online seminars and special lectures to study and decide whether to fully promote the application of electronic wallets.
